The following project was created in reaction to living as a post-September 11th American, reevaluating a political system perpetuated by failing media and the blowback of American foreign policy. These faces and stories belong to the women and children of Afghanistan, who have had little to no access to expose their ongoing struggle to pre- or post- 9/11 America. Each print rendered for this project is based on an actual photograph. These women and children are either anonymous or identified, depending on the source from which I attained the image. Their faces are real, as are their stories. This project was created between 2003 and 2004.
The following prints are linoleum block portraits, made on a Vandercook press.
